Do you find yourself scouring through your pantry, looking for the best snacks for munchies every time you get high? Are your kitchen cabinets usually a vacant and barren void just when you need to satisfy your cravings? If you’re settling for boring leftovers from the fridge, taco bell trips, or making do with a stale bag of chips, you are not alone. Cannabis-induced hunger pangs are real, and so is the laziness that follows. In a daze of utter relaxation, you can’t reasonably be expected to cook or make a quick run to the grocery store to buy snacks.

So, what is a cannabis consumer do? Well, like most things in life, you have to plan ahead. Stock up on your favorite snacks BEFORE you light up a pre-roll. And in that great endeavor, we’re here to help.

We’ve compiled a great list of the best snacks for your munchies! From salty, sweet, and crunchy to creamy, we’ve got you covered. We’ve even got something for the calorie-conscious peeps. After all, without stoner snacks, no cannabis experience can be complete, and we want to ensure hunger doesn’t turn your trip sour. So, open up your favorite grocery store app and get ready to order some seriously delicious snacks to fill up those empty shelves in your kitchen!

Why do you get hungry when high?

Hunger is an extremely common outcome of smoking or consuming cannabis. Despite having eaten a proper meal right before, it can make you feel hungry all over again.

The question is, why do the munchies hit?

Well, there is very clear science behind why “the munchies” happen. Cannabis contains THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive component that causes euphoria. But that’s not all that it does. In addition, THC is also responsible for stimulating hunger. When THC interacts with your brain, it produces chemical compounds that trigger your appetite.

In its interaction with the brain, THC can also stimulate the release of a hormone called ghrelin that controls our sense of taste and smell. With enhanced sensitivity to smell, we find the aroma of food more potent. This can also stimulate hunger.

Munchies, however, are not a universal experience. Many people don’t feel hungry after smoking pot. This can be due to several reasons. Several strains of cannabis, like Sativa, for example, don’t cause the munchies as severely as others do. Similarly, if you’ve had a big meal before smoking up, you might not experience hunger intensely.

The bottom line is if you know you are going to crave something salty or sweet after getting seshing, it’s better to have snacks and drinks ready and set the right mood to enhance your overall experience. The most important thing to do here is to keep your favorite snacks handy! Nothing kills the mood more than having to scavenge for grub mid-blaze.

So, let’s introduce you to the best stoner snacks. (If you’re a long-time stoner, you might already be familiar with a few!)

The 20 Best Munchies Snacks

Now, different kinds of food appeal to different palettes. But some are absolute classics as stoner snacks. So here we go, get your taste buds ready!

  1. Chips and Nachos

Chips and nachos are one of the most popular stoner snacks for a reason. They are salty, crunchy, and just plain delicious! And best of all, they are easy to make. All you need is a bag of chips and some cheese (or nacho sauce), and you’re good to go. Or, spice it up with some chili peppers, jalapenos, or salsa.

  1. Pizza Roll Bagel Bites

Pizza bagel bites are the best of both worlds. You get the deliciousness of pizza and the convenience of a bite-sized snack. Then, just pop them in the oven, and you’ve got yourself a yummy treat. Add some veggies or extra cheese for an even tastier experience!

  1. Ice Cream

By far the most popular stoned snack, ice cream just hits differently when you’re high. Ben & Jerry’s is probably everyone’s favorite ice cream to satisfy their munchies. Its top flavors include Half Baked, Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Phish Food. So it might be a good idea to keep a few different flavors of ice cream in your freezer.

You can also opt for an ice cream sandwich or a milkshake. Or, if you’re feeling extra indulgent, go for a sundae!

  1. Cereal

Everyone has a flavor of cereal they like, whether Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, or Frosted Flakes. But, for anyone who’s ever had the late-night munchies, you know that cereal with milk is always the best cure because it’s usually the only thing left to eat in the kitchen.

Day or night, this simple American breakfast food will save you from hunger. Plus, an added benefit of cereal is that the milk helps combat dry mouth, which many people experience after smoking weed.

  1. Pop-Tarts

Filled with fruit flavors and covered with frosting, Pop-Tarts are delectable little snacks. With over 20 flavors, including hot fudge sundae, s’mores, raspberry, and cinnamon pretzel, Pop-Tarts taste best when heated up a little in a toaster or microwave.

  1. Popcorn

You can turn a humble bag of popcorn into something special by adding salt, butter, honey, parmesan, garlic, or pepper. Popcorn takes a minute or two to prepare, so you can easily make it even when you’re three sheets to the wind! (FYI: popcorn by itself is also a healthy option as it contains vitamins and minerals and is low in fat and sugar.)

  1. Sour Gummies

Maybe it’s the funky flavor or the tartness of the candy, but these chewy gummies are an absolute smash hit. So it is no wonder that the most popular cannabis edibles are also gummies

  1. Fries

Sometimes the munchies cannot be satisfied with a humble bag of chips. You need a full-on meal to feed your dragon-sized appetite. The best dish to start off with is a bowl of loaded fries. Salted fries topped with melted cheese, garlic powder, meat, or diced veggies can do wonders for an empty stomach. If you’re looking for a little something extra, try sweet potato fries!

  1. Burgers

Fantasizing about burgers when you’re high is a curse. A curse that can only be lifted once you’ve got your hands on a McDonald’s, In-n-Out, or Sonic burger. Nothing quite like a big meaty, cheesy, juicy burger with a side of fries, soda, and onion rings to get you feeling full again.

  1. Mac n’ Cheese

Super easy to make and even easier to demolish quickly, Mac n’ cheese is probably the most iconic stoner snack. All you have to do is boil water, add pasta, drain the water and mix cheese and salt through the macaroni. Done!

  1. Instant Noodles

There are scores and scores of instant noodle brands out there. Ramen noodles are easily the tastiest variety. You’ll be spoiled for choice with options like Shin Ramen, Top Ramen, MAMA, and Nissin Hot & Spicy. You can even customize the ramen according to your likes by adding onion, garlic, peppers, and mushrooms to the mix. You might actually come up with an exciting flavor combination if you’re cooking ‘under the influence’!

  1. Nutella

This much-loved chocolate and hazelnut spread is as versatile as they come. You can dip crackers into it or spread it over bread or even eat it by the spoonful. Drizzle it over ice cream, frozen fruit yogurt, fresh fruits, or pancakes, and watch the munchies fade away. You should definitely add this to your grocery list.

  1. Oreos

America’s best-selling cookie is the ultimate munchies snack. Readily available and inexpensive, Oreos can be eaten in many different ways. Not only are they delicious, but the act of eating an Oreo is always a lot of fun. Chomp it down the old-fashioned way or dunk it in milk. Or even better, split the Oreo open and lick the filling away!

  1. Donuts

What could possibly be a better snack than deep-fried batter dough glazed with sugar, chocolate, and maple syrup? With countless new flavors available, donuts are fun snacks to add to the munchies mix. So next time you go to a donut shop, try new flavors like lemon, cinnamon, jelly, blueberry, maple bacon, red velvet, and sticky orange.

  1. Chocolates

Nothing can satisfy your mind and tummy like chocolate can. Plus, it’s easy to buy, serve and eat. There’s no way you can go wrong with a box of chocolates. You can make things interesting by looking for unusual flavors like orange, chili, coconut, or peanut butter in the chocolate aisle at the supermarket.

Healthy Snacks

If you’re fitness conscious and don’t want to end up snacking on oily or high-calorie snacks, there are several healthy snacks to consider. Here are a few healthier alternatives:

  1. Pumpkin seeds

Pre-roasted and pre-salted pumpkin seeds are readily available in grocery stores. They are extremely nutritious and rich in antioxidants, iron, zinc, and magnesium. In addition, pumpkin seeds improve heart health, fertility, blood sugar levels, and sleep quality. Pine nuts and sunflower seeds are also excellent options for you to explore.

  1. Fruit bowl

Round up all the fresh fruit you have at home and make yourself a classic fruit bowl. Oranges, grapes, pomegranates, blueberries, strawberries, apples, bananas, and watermelons are healthy fruits to add to your bowl. If you feel like adding a bit of sweetener to the mix, you can drizzle a bit of sweetened cream on top.

  1. Fresh vegetables with hummus

Vegetables are actually a great way to combat food cravings. They are crunchy and can be tasty if you know what to pair them with. Hummus is the perfect accompaniment to veggies. You can make it by blending chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic in a blender. To make the dish tastier, you can lightly saute the veggies in olive oil or grill them in the oven.

  1. Baked kale chips

Not everyone likes kale, but we have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like salted kale chips! All you’ve got to do is massage kale leaves in olive oil, add almond flour and garlic salt to the mix and bake them in the oven. Baked Kale chips are delicious and can last at least a few days! (that is, if you don’t eat them all up in one sitting.)

  1. Tortilla chips with guacamole

You can buy low-calorie and healthy tortilla chips made from blue corn. They are high in antioxidants and low in sodium. Guacamole can also be purchased from a grocery store, but the healthiest version would be the one you make at home. Making guac at home is pretty simple, and you only need a handful of ingredients.
