This iconic museum, listed on Muskegon Historic Sites, is housed inside a replica of a nineteenth century building, C H Hackley Hose Company No. 2.
What is the Fire Barn Museum’s history?
The Fire Barn Museum has a long but interesting history. Muskegon witnessed some of the most devastating fires in 1871 and 1874, and following that, the City Council built a firehouse on the northwest corner of Seventh Street and Webster Avenue. In 1875, the site was taken over by the C H Hackley Hose Company No. 2.
As time passed, the company’s operations spread all over Muskegon and firefighting equipment became more sophisticated. In June 1892, the C H Hackley Hose Company No. 2 was closed by the City Council. In 1976, the Muskegon Heritage Society and the City of Muskegon created a replica of the iconic firehouse and named it The Fire Barn Museum.
